A house in south Red Lodge was engulfed by fire early Friday morning, Dec. 14.

Early Friday morning, Dec. 14, a Red Lodge residence burned down. The house was a rental. No one was home at the time nor were there any pets on the premises.

At approximately 5:20 a.m. there was a structure fire south of town. Red Lodge Fire Rescue (RLFR) and Roberts Fire Department responded.

Red Lodge Fire Chief Tom Kuntz said, “Around 5:30 a.m. (Carbon County) Dispatch received a call reporting heavy smoke. We were not initially sure where the fire was. We were able to locate the house and when we arrived on the scene it was fully involved in fire.”

RLFR worked three hours to extinguish the blaze. “We monitored the scene for another four hours,” explained Kuntz.

There was no risk to other structures. The cause is unknown at this time but Kuntz said the fire was not suspicious.
