RLHS FFA receives Kids Corner grant for Greenhouse

Kids Corner recently granted Red Lodge High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) $600, which will be used for the purchase of its commercial greenhouse. Construction is underway at the site near the high school, and students have already raised more than $5,000 through plant sales. The greenhouse is expected to cost $14,000, not including site-work. Numerous local contractors are supporting the project with in-kind donations. When finished, the greenhouse would be self-sustaining with continued sale of bedding plants and vegetables.
“We’re excited to support the students who are working so hard to raise funds for their greenhouse, which has the potential to have a positive impact our entire community,” said Jenny Muirhead, Kids Corner board chair.

The grant to Red Lodge FFA is one of several grants Kids Corner has given this year to support youth activities and programs in Carbon County. Other recipients include the Beartooth Children’s Center, the Boys and Girls Club, Kindermusik, Roberts School Library, Luther School, Mountain Bluebells Preschool, scholarships for dance and ski programs and numerous classroom teachers across Carbon County. In total, Kids Corner has granted more than $8,000 in the past year and more than $45,000 since it was founded in 2011.
Located at 18 N. Broadway, Kids Corner is an all volunteer-run thrift store that sells children’s clothing, gear and toys.

Carbon County-based youth organizations seeking funding are encouraged to apply for grants up to $600. Applications can be picked up at the store, or by sending an email to kidscornerredlodge@gmail.com.
