Rock Creek Writers Open-Mike Night announced

Thursday, October 11, 2018

Local writers, led by Stephen Brown, John Clayton, Lee Cooper, and Don Redfoot, have revived a former group called Rock Creek Writers to sponsor open-mike readings where anyone can show up and read from 5-7 minutes of their own work—poetry, memoir, fiction, essay, nonfiction, humor, whatever they’re working on.

This is an opportunity for writers of any age, ability, success (or lack thereof) to share work-in-progress.  It’s not a workshop or critique session, nor is it a sales venue for books.  The group hopes to build community among people who enjoy trying to express themselves through the written word.

At the first event, held on Sept. 17, eleven writers read from works of poetry, memoir, children’s, nonfiction, and fiction of several genres.  Supportive listeners also attended.

The next event is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in the back room of the Pizza Company.  The bar will be open and food can be ordered, but neither purchase nor performance is required.  Listeners, as well as writers, are welcome.
