Bridger Scouts fought back after a semi-final defeat to Plenty Coups to take 3rd at the 6-C Basketball Districts in Huntley last week.

The Scouts triumphed over Broadview 48-37 in the Consolation game making up for their 78-38 loss to Plenty Coups earlier.

The tournaments had started well for Bridger with the team beating Absarokee 51-37.  The 14-point margin was courtesy of some dominant 2nd half play that saw the Scouts take the 3rd quarter 15-10 and the final one 13-10.

Colby Zentner kicked off the games scoring 12 points with Jake Kallevig on 11, Kalen Pospisil 9 and Jake Mitzel on 6.

The victory put them up against Plenty Coups for a place in the final. However, their strategy didn’t go to plan as the Scouts started off trailing 18-6 giving them a mountain to climb. They fought back but could not panic Plenty Coups who held on to the 2nd quarter 14-13 and the 3rd by 16-11. Trailing by 18 coming into the final, the Scouts lost the plot and were blitzed 30-8.

Kallevig took up the mantle of lead scorer with 17 points, while Pospisil collected 9.

On to the loser-out tie against Harlowton and a tight 1st quarter that had Bridger trailing 15-14. The chance to still get something out of this tournament was there and the 2nd quarter proved to be a gold mine for the Scouts who took it 12-4. Now in the driving seat, they compounded Harlowton’s miserable morning winning the 3rd 16-10 before rounding off with a 14-12 bow out to make it 56-41 Bridger.

Kallevig took his tournament total to 58, scoring 30 points against the Engineers. Pospisil got 10.

The win pushed Bridger into the Consolation game with Broadview/Lavina and with a place at Divisionals at stake, the Scouts went about their business sinking the Pirates 48-37.

Generally a tight affair, the Scouts led 20-17 at the half before churning into the hull of the Pirates ship and taking the 3rd 18-9. The Pirates reboarded the Scout’s ship for a short time to gain back some ground but it was too little too late.

Kallevig took top honors again with 22 points, taking his total to 80 points in 4 games. Mitzel followed up with 9 and C. Zentner on 8.

Bridger will now face Wibaux, Feb. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Laurel High School in the Southern C tournament.
