STOP THE BLEEDING! Literally

How effective would you be to render aid to a bleeding person? What if you were at the concert in Las Vegas a few weeks ago, or if you come across a vehicle accident, or happen to be anywhere where you need to stop the bleeding?
The Red Lodge Police Department has your back in Red Lodge. As part of the Department’s Strategic Plan to provide the best trained officers for the community, Acting Chief Scott Cope and Sergeant Matthew Grieshop coordinated tourniquet training for full-time, part-time and reserve officers.

Chris Benton, RN and Trauma Coordinator for the Beartooth Billings Clinic Trauma Services and Kevin Larson, Physical Therapist and EMT for Red Lodge Fire Rescue facilitated the training for the officers.
Acting Chief Scott Cope received $450.00 in donations to supply all training materials which included tourniquet’s, QuikClot gauze, pressure bandages and trauma shears. The RLPD would like to thank the following for their generous donations: Myrna Rue and Montana Realty, Jerry Ronning of Ronning Auto Truck and Tractor Service, and Bill and Diane Larson. Bill Larson, who spent 27 years as a fire fighter is very familiar with tourniquet usage in the field and felt this training was well worth it for the RLPD and the community which benefits from the officers’ training.
