Susan Hunter Kircher

Susan Hunter Kircher, 77, of Fairway, Kansas, and Red Lodge, Montana, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, surrounded by her loving family.
Born Nov. 23,1940 in St. Louis, Missouri, Susan grew up in Kansas City and attended Visitation grade school, St. Teresa’s Academy and Sunset Hill. She went on to attend Goucher College in Baltimore, Maryland, and then her beloved University of Missouri, where she majored in English and met the love of her life, Bill, her devoted and loving husband of nearly 56 years.
Susan was a thoughtful and caring woman, setting a standard of grace, commitment and responsibility for her entire family.
She loved her faith and her family above all else, and took great delight in her children and grandchildren. She was an active member of both Calvary Episcopal Church in Red Lodge, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, where she held many roles including being a pioneer member of the cancer support group where she was an inspiration to all. She loved her Montana Bible Study group, and drew tremendous support from her cherished friends in her Kansas City prayer group.
In addition to raising four daughters and spoiling nine grandchildren, she was director of marketing for JD Reece for 25 years. She was active in many Kansas City civic causes and groups including BOTAR and the American Royal, Kappa Alpha Theta, and her study group, the 81 Club.
She and Bill and their family enjoyed many adventures together including countless trips West, many trips to Europe and more Mizzou games than we can count.
In her later years, she greatly enjoyed her home in Montana, where the entire family would gather during summer and Christmas vacations. She created many wonderful memories of the family together in their special home. A perfect afternoon in Montana for her was lunch and a good book on the front porch swing, followed by a shopping trip downtown, where she pledged to “Save Red Lodge one store at a time.”
She is survived by her loving husband of nearly 56 years, Bill Kircher, her four daughters Jennifer Kircher Benson (Charley), Kirsten Kircher McGannon (John), Mary Susan Kircher Dubinski (Joe), and Angela Kircher Frederick (Rich), and nine grandchildren who adored their Nana: Caitlin, Sara and Allison Benson; Emma and Helen Wheatley; Billy and Rebecca McGannon; and Greta and Annie Albrecht. She also leaves her sisters Mary H. Folck (Scott), Julie Kohlmeyer (Bob), sister-in-law Marganna Hunter; and her two brothers Marshall Dean (Jill) and Vincent Dean (Cathy). She also leaves her brother-in-law Charles Kircher (Helen) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents Dr. Martin P. Hunter and Dorothy Schlueter Hunter, her step-mother Thelma Dean Hunter Olson, her baby brother Christian L. Hunter, her brother Martin P. Hunter, Jr., her nephew Stuart Mann, and her grandson Charles William Albrecht.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 1 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City. Reception at the church to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations can be made to the Faculty Support Fellowship for the English Department of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Missouri, Columbia Missouri, or to Children’s Mercy Hospital, Department of Philanthropy, 2401 Gillham Rd., Kansas City, MO 64109.
