Joliet boys secured two good wins last week to keep their District 4B titles hopes alive and take their conference record to 6-2, and 7-7 overall when they defeated Shepherd by 4 to win 44-40 and then Columbus 48-36.

The Shepherd Mustangs proved to be no easy pushover matching the J-Hawks point for point at the half 20-19, Joliet, and even taking a narrow lead by the end of the 3rd. However, Joliet dashed any hopes for a Mustang celebration with a comeback in the 4th to win the game.

Zayne Songstad hit the Mustang’s basket 16 times with Reed Welsh following up on 8 and Ry Olson and Walker Anttila on 7 a piece.

The J-Hawks had an easier time against Columbus despite a late scare that mattered little afterwards, since Joliet had collected 39 points before the 4th quarter to Columbus’s 18.

Songstad and Olson shared the honors of 14 points each and Caleb Bailey signed up for 7 points.
