Urge City to Act

To the Editor,
I urge the City Council and Mayor to support the proposed Non-Discrimination Resolution and make it clear to all that Red Lodge is a wonderful and welcoming place to live, work and visit.
We’ve heard and read comments from some who oppose passing this resolution mostly on religious reasons. However, the roles of government and religion are uniquely different and I suggest that a resolution clearly expressing our community’s openness will in no way interfere with anyone’s free exercise of their religion.  Also, there is little to support the fears a few have expressed that a welcoming environment will somehow result in threatening and illegal interactions.
We live here because we know that Red Lodge is a wonderful place.  Let’s put out the welcome mat to everyone by expressing our support for real diversity.
Thank you for addressing this issue in a thoughtful way. I’m hopeful that your decision will reflect positively on our community.

Respectfully,

Gretchen Nolan
Red Lodge
