The Joliet J-Hawks had a “great week of volleyball” said Coach Colette Webber after beating Columbus and Shepherd and finishing 1st at the Jefferson Smack Down Invitational.
“We went to the Jefferson Smack Down invitational in Boulder on 10-7 and the girls took first.  This was an invitation only tournament comprised of teams in Class B who either went to State last season or have the potential to be a state team,” said Webber. “The girls left at 4:30 in the morning after homecoming and played their hearts out.”

In the morning pool, Joliet defeated Three Forks 25-19, 25-20 and split with Colstrip 25-20, 20-25 and with Choteau 25-19, 23-25.
That put them first in their pool with only two losses.  The top 4 teams went to the Gold Pool and the bottom 3 went to the Silver Pool.
“We then played a whole new pool play with the top 4 teams in the tournament to decide the overall winner of the 4 best teams with wins and points,” said Webber. The J-Hawks lost to Three Forks in the first Gold Pool game, 25-13, 25-19.
“The girls were just flat tired but after a pep talk that included a lot of grit and they came out and beat Jefferson 25-18, 25-16,” said Webber.
Three Forks lost to Jefferson and split with Florence that gave them three losses.
“My girls saw an open door to take first.  They knew if they beat Florence in both games they would have first by wins and losses.  They showed true grit and came out and beat Florence 25-17, 25-20,” said Webber.
The winning order was:  Joliet, Jefferson, Three Forks, Florence, Choteau, Colstrip and Shelby.
“This was a great tournament to show them they can play with some of the best teams in the state,” said Webber.  “It was an intense day of volleyball.  Everyone there was good and the games moved fast. We learned a lot as a team about pulling together and giving your all for each other.  It was a great day.”
Prior to this tournament Joliet had defeated 25-9, 25-16, 25-21 and Shepherd 25-14, 25-14, 25-11.
As of Oct. 3 Joliet lie in 2nd place in the District 4B volleyball standing with a 7-5 record.
