Bridger football strode into the semi-finals of the Montana 6-Man Football Playoffs last weekend. They defeated Big Sandy 42-7.
“This was a well played playoff win for the Scouts,” said Coach Mike Mathis. “We finished our first half drives nicely giving us a big 42-0 lead on a tough northern team. They are a ground and pound team but we answered the bell with stops every time they had the ball except one late possession. They certainly had the size edge on us but our speed and talent was too much for them to overcome. We had big gains and touchdown plays and we were popping pads well and shut down their power run attack.”
Colter Zentner had 12 carries for 110 yards with two rushing touchdowns and was eight for 11 passing for 193 yards and four touchdowns to go with nine tackles and one sack. Colby Zentner had three catches for 75 yards and 12 tackles and three pass break ups with Russell Zentner who had three receptions for 125 yards that all went for touchdowns. He also made nine tackles.
Nick Althoff caught a touchdown pass and registered 12 tackles and Jake Mitzel had nine tackles and multiple key blocks on offense.
“This win sets up a semifinal matchup with White Sulphur Springs this Saturday at their house,” said Mathis. “We have a great fan base and tons of super support so I’m sure we’ll have a big crowd as we attempt to get into the state title game. The Hornets have a good ground game with two hard running backs and decent size on their line. Once again we’ll try to use our speed and get our athletes into positions to utilize our big play abilities. The Scouts are eager and hungry for another playoff win this Saturday.”
The Scouts face the undefeated White Sulphur Springs, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at the home of the Hornets.
