Gloria Weber

Our beloved mom, Gloria Weber, passed away on Feb. 13, 2018 just six weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. We were fortunate to spend precious family time in the past few weeks with the gentle woman who was the center of our family.

Gloria Antonia Obrigewitch was born July 22, 1937 in Belfield, North Dakota, to Anton (Tony) and Bertha (Schaeffer) Obrigewitch. Mom was the fourth of thirteen children and loved growing up on the family ranch with her brothers and sisters. “Toots” was a natural caretaker and was instrumental in the continued education of several of her siblings. She looked forward to annual summer visits to “the farm” where she reconnected with her large Catholic family.

Mom graduated from Belfield High School and after graduation worked as a teacher while completing her college education. Mom’s first teaching job was at a small country school in the Medora Badlands. She went on to teach in Glendive, Livingston, Wibaux and Joliet Public School, from which she retired in 2001. It was in Glendive where Mom met our dad, Jerry Weber. Mom loved music and she and Dad were excellent dance partners. They were married on Aug.13, 1966 and celebrated 40 years of marriage before Dad’s death in 2006.

Mom taught school for 30 plus years and she truly was smarter than a 5th grader! She was a master at crosswords and read voraciously. Her incredible artistic talent and beautiful calligraphy writing were well known and she cultivated these talents in her kids and grandkids. Mom had a calm, loving presence that helped guide her students and her children as they became adults and parents.

Mom’s greatest joy was her family; 7 kids, 11 grandchildren and 6 sons and daughters-in-law who she considered her own. She was a fun mom, not minding the noise and mess we left in our wake. She spent hours reading to us, teaching us practical skills and playing with us. As a grandma, Mom spent her time playing playdoh, painting rocks, baking and reading to her precious grandchildren. Grandma was known for her caramel rolls, full fridge, overflowing pantry and rowdy game nights.

In July 2017, we gathered the entire family to celebrate Mom’s 80th birthday. It was an incredibly special time to share as a family. Mom talked of the occasion often and we still laugh about the boat ride with Mom firmly buckled into her life jacket.

Gloria is survived by all seven of her children and their families: Tracey (Lewis) Krutzfeldt of Powderville; Shad (Casey) Weber of Boyd; Sheri (Doug) Hatten of Boyd; Paige Weber of Joliet; Ty (Kathy) Weber of Kiowa, Colorado; Cody (Casey) Tillard of Glenrock, Wyoming; and Kipp (Crissy) Weber of Joliet. The grandchildren who brought her so much joy are Levi & Lane Krutzfeldt; Raney, Teal & Kenyon Hatten; Coy Weber; Conner, Caden & Clancy Tillard; and Nate & Tru Weber. Additional survivors are Gloria’s 10 living siblings, Jerry’s Weber family, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gloria is predeceased by her husband Jerry, parents Tony & Bertha, Jerry’s parents, brothers Cliff & Gary Obrigewitch, 2 brothers-inlaw and four sisters-in-law.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gloria’s name to the Joliet Community Center, PO Box 29, Joliet, MT 59041 or to the Autism Education Scholarship Fund, PO Box 2285, Glenrock, WY 82637.

Vigil rosary will be Friday, Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Joliet. Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s with burial at the Joliet Cemetery. Lunch will follow at the Joliet Community Center. Smith’s Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.

Liebe, Mom.
