Thomas E. Westhaeffer

Our loving husband, father and grandfather, Thomas Ebert Westhaeffer, of Bearcreek passed away Feb. 16, 2018 after a heroic fight against multiple cancers.

Tom was born Dec. 5, 1954 in Washington, DC. At five months of age he was adopted by Paul and Virginia Westhaeffer of Arlington, Virginia. He loved the outdoors as a child and learned many skills from his Boy Scout troop father. Tom attended school in Virginia and graduated from Phelps Academy in Malvern, Pennsylvania. For many years he was a maintenance engineer for several hi-rise luxury apartments in Virginia.

On May 15, 1987 Tom married Elizabeth Adams and became a wonderful father to Jennifer and Ibrahim. They lived in Virginia until 1996 when they moved back to Liz’s hometown of Bearcreek.

Tom was an avid hunter and fisherman. His many wildlife and fish mounts as well as photos are scattered throughout the home. Tom was working on his Grand Slam Turkey title and only had one more species of turkey to add to the collection. Another hobby was team bowling which he did twice weekly. He loved hooking up the boat and camper to head away for a long weekend with the grandkids. Fishing was always a competition between him and Austin.

His love for English Springer Spaniels brought six of them through our doors. He leaves behind his four legged children, Max and Maya.

Tom is survived by his wife of 31 years, Liz; and children, Jennifer (Brian) Jessen of Bearcreek and Ibrahim (Suhair) Aburish of Maryland. He had five grandchildren which he positively adored, Austin, Aaliyah and Malayna Jessen and Ahmad and Deyana Aburish. He is also survived by his sister, Caroline of Virginia, cousins Kathy (Bill) Weiss of Wisconsin and Frank Davis, IV of Florida. Also, special Virginia godchildren, Katrianna, Kenny, Alexandria and Joshua Tapscott.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20 at the Red Lodge Alliance Chapel.

Memorials may be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Red Lodge or the Beartooth Humane Alliance.
