Bridger boys season ends in challenge game

Bridger boys failed to secure their state berth losing out to Melstone in the Southern C challenge match last weekend.

Bridger reached the championship game but fell to Park City and were forced into the challenge game after Melstone defeated Plenty Coups in the consolation game.

The Scouts started the tournament well easily defeating Wibaux 55-40, taking control from the start with a 15-10 lead and keeping the pace up to the end and even finding more energy to finish off with a rousing 17-10 4th quarter.

Bridger tried six 3-point attempts, getting two of them.

Leading the scoring for Bridger was Kolton Pospisil with 24 points. Carson Roberts added 14, Colter Zentner and Colby Zentner both had 8 and Jake Mitzel one. Carson also made 6 offensive rebounds and 13 defensive rebounds.

Bridger’s victory put them in a semi-final meeting with Plenty Coups who had defeated Terry 86-65.

The Scouts once again made quick work of their opponent, controlling the opening half with 17-9 and 14-8 scores. Plenty Coups tightened up their defense in the 2nd half but still couldn’t prevent Bridger from overhauling them in the points department taking the 3rd quarter 19-18 and the 4th quarter 23-19.

Pospisil once more led the team in points with 22 and offensive and defensive rebounds collecting 11. Roberts scored 15 points with Russell Zentner on 12 and Colter Zentner on

11. The teams had a nice spread of scorers, with an additional 4 players getting scores; Mitzel 6, Kaleb Buessing 4, Brandon Klaassen on 2 and Colby Zentner on 1.

With Park City defeating Melstone in a close semi final 44-42, the stage was set for a Bridger, Park City showdown.

Things did not go according to plan as the Panthers gained early ground taking a 27-8 lead into half time. The Scouts came back strongly in the 2nd half but for every point their scored the Panthers were able to replicate it. In the end the Scout’s brave fightback came to nothing as they lost 61-39.

Pospisil was kept quiet, scoring only 5 points. Again Bridger showed great strength in depth with 8 players on the score sheet. Colter Zentner led in scoring with 8, with Roberts on 6 points with 10 rebounds. Also on 6 was Kalen Pospisil with R. Zentner on 5, Colby Zentner 4, Mitzel 3 and Buessing on 2.

The loss put Bridger into the challenge game against Melstone who had won the consolation against Plenty Coups 71-41. Despite a tough response from Bridger where they narrowly lost the 2nd and 4th quarters 17-15 and 15-14, they could not make up for the heavy weather of the 1st and 3rd quarter where Melstone had strolled to 10-4 and 10-3 wins. Bridger lost 52-36.

Pospisil was back leading the team in points with 17 with Roberts on 13 points and with 13 total in rebounds. R. Zentner got 4 points and Colter Zentner 2.
