Gary Hopper

Nov. 30, 1950-March 7, 2018

March 7, 2018, we lost our beloved Grasshopper Gary. He was a beautiful, kind, loving, generous soul; he will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of calling him family or friend.
Gary is survived by his brother Ronnie Hopper, Step mother Phillis Hopper, Aunt Evalyn, Uncle and Aunt, Dale and Sharon Hopper, family in Billings, Montana, and other various family members, Gary’s best friends Ron Makinson and Lee J. Hanchett, close friends in Red Lodge, his Rock 'n' Roll family and many many more friends.
Gary’s hometown is Seattle, Washington. He moved to New Orleans in 1962, went to East Jefferson High School and attended UAB for computers. Gary traveled all over the USA for his love of Rock ‘n’ Roll. He had so many epic concert stories that he loved sharing with everyone. After living in different places, he landed in Red Lodge, Montana, where he resided until his passing. He was proud to call this town his home. A love for this small community was felt by all.
Gary was among some of the first snowboarders on Red Lodge Mountain. They called themselves the “Bad Boys Club.” He also was a snowboard instructor for many years. Gary cooked on and off for a lot of years but became an incredible carpenter. He retired working for Malin Construction.
Gary also enjoyed traveling to Yellowstone National Park for his love of photography. He had many different wonderful photos of the things he loved most in life. He was a true adventurer.
You will be forever missed and always loved. Rock on, Brother…
Please come celebrate Gary Hopper’s life with all his loved ones!! His life celebration will be held at 2 p.m. March 24, 2018 at the Snag Bar in Red Lodge.
