Eleanor Jean Mance

Thursday, July 26, 2018

Eleanor Jean Mance, age 79, passed away at home on July 13, 2018.  She was born to Mitchell and Anna Thomas on July 4, 1939 in Billings.  Later, the family moved to Roberts where Eleanor was raised and graduated in 1958.  She married John Mance in Trinity Lutheran Church (Billings) on Sept. 24, 1961.  They resided in Joliet where they raised three children but were divorced some twenty-five plus years later.  Eleanor remained in Joliet where she continued to farm and ranch.

Mom enjoyed animals (especially her pets), bowling, reading, doing crossword puzzles, Sudoku puzzles, and especially playing card games with her family and friends.  But most recently her game of choice was (cheater’s) Yahtzee in which she won more than she lost.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Mitchell (Ernie) and Donald.  Survivors include a son Karl and daughters Jana (Duane) Palin and Melanie (Dudley) Mance. She is survived by one granddaughter Sarah (Stephen) Standish and her two children Joslyn and Tristan.  She is survived by a sister in law Ann Thomas and one uncle, Richard Kober.

We would like to thank and extend our utmost appreciation to the hospice staff at Beartooth Billings Clinic for their care of mom as well as their support and kindness to her family.

Services were held on Monday, July 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Laurel with a reception following.  Memorials may be made in mom’s name to St. John’s.  Cremation has taken place and the interment will be at a later date.  Smith Funeral Chapels in Laurel is assisting the family with arrangements.  Condolences for the family may be shared at: www.smithfuneralchapels.com.
