Red Lodge Police Officer Benjamin Lebrun was presented with a Lifesaving Award at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting for his part in saving a life. Mayor Bill Larson presented him with a pin and a plaque.

Police Chief Jason Wells read out the commendation that described Lebrun’s “Outstanding alertness and actions” in saving a life.

The incident occurred on June 7, 2018 when Lebrun heard a medical emergency call on the air. At a local restaurant there was an unconscious male who was in need of medical care and was not breathing. Lebrun chose to sprint to the scene knowing he’d be faster than using his patrol unit.

“He assessed the needs of the male, and determined CPR was needed,” continued Chief Wells. Lebrun alternated with another person carrying out CRP until EMT personnel arrived and took the person to the Beartooth Billings Clinic.

Lebrun returned to the station, got his vehicle and drove to the hospital where he continued to assist the patient, who later regained consciousness and was transferred to a Billings Hospital.

Officer Scott Cope hired Lebrun during his tenure as acting chief.
