Tester, Bullock deliver $11m for Victims of Crime

Thursday, August 16, 2018

U.S. Senator Jon Tester and Montana Governor Steve Bullock today announced that the Montana Board of Crime Control will receive $11 million to assist victims of crime.

The Montana Board of Crime Control was awarded the competitive grant from the U.S. Department of Justice and will use the funds to provide training and technical assistance to service providers who support victims of crime.

“These resources will help survivors access the life-changing services and treatments that will help them recover,” Tester said.  “While law enforcement holds offenders accountable, I will keep pushing to make sure survivors have the support that they deserve.”

“With supportive resources like these, Montanans across the state are providing victims of violent crimes with the help and attention they need,” said Governor Bullock. “As governor, I will continue to work collaboratively with the legislature to strengthen laws that protect victims and support survivors.”

The $11 million grant was made available through the Victims of Crime Act’s Victim Assistance initiative.  Tester has continuously used his position on the Senate Appropriations Committee to secure funding for Victims of Crime Act and Violence Against Women Act grants.

These grants are awarded each year to private nonprofit and public agencies that provide direct services to crime victims—including survivors of violent crimes.

The Montana Board of Crime Control helps facilitate and coordinate crime prevention services between federal, state, tribal, and local law enforcement agencies.
